[英文筆記] [區別/差異]than any other +單數名詞？ 還是 複數名詞？豆幾

那天看到一題英檢練習題：She is shorter than any other student in her class. 解答是用單數的student，看到我吃了一驚後退三步，我腦中的文法一直是any other後面可數名詞都是加s。

不過再仔細查了一下之後才知道原來是兩個答案都可以，只是語意上會有點不一樣。

1. She is taller than any other student in her class. 和班上任何其他一名學生相比
2. She is taller than any (of the) other students in her class. (=than all the other boys) (和班上所有其他的學生相比)

結論是any other後面可以接單數或是複數名詞，看是要和任何一個人比較，或是和其他的人比。要用單數或是複數取決於書寫的人要表達的意思是哪一項，其他例句：

I’m looking for any other book I can find on this subject. (找另一本書)

I’m looking for any other books I can find on this subject.(找其他幾本書)
